Pistol calibers (9mm, .45, .40) at 10+ yards. Standard rifle (.223, 5.56, .308) at 100+ yards. Magnum rifle: 200+. NEVER steel-core, armor-piercing, or bi-metal jacket - they damage plates and ricochet unpredictably.
10 yards for pistol, 100 yards for rifle - no exceptions. Hang targets so they angle slightly downward; splatter deflects into the dirt instead of back at you. Eye and ear protection every single shot.
Every gong ships with two hang holes. Options: our Stand Kit (drops onto 2x4s), fire-hose straps from a wood frame, or grade-70 chain from a pipe stand. Whatever you pick, let the plate swing free - movement kills ricochet energy and makes the ring louder.
AR500 gets its hardness from heat treatment. A cutting torch re-heats the edge and un-hardens it - those soft rims crater, pit, and eventually throw splatter. Laser cutting keeps the heat-affected zone tiny, so the plate stays full hardness edge to edge. It's the whole reason our targets outlive the cheap ones.
